a birthday in the berkshires

On Monday, I turned 27. I was fortunate enough to have the day off of work, so Jon, my sister Elle and I loaded up the kayaks and went out on a lake in the Berkshires. It was a gorgeous June day! And I was so happy to spend it with some of my favorite people. I work inside most days so it was really nice to get out and enjoy the weather.

After we went kayaking and spent some time at the lake beach, we stopped for some ice cream. New England style ice cream is delicious… it’s slightly chewy and creamy. I always get mine with jimmies. We also stopped at this cool retro/vintage shop. I love these little mom and pop shops out in the Berkshires. It was neat to see all of the vintage Coca-Cola products! We stopped and talked with the store owner which was really fun.

It was a pretty perfect birthday, in my opinion. I can’t believe that last year, we were in Chichicastenango for my birthday. This year has really flown by!

Cute little sister. Can you believe we are 9 years apart?! I can’t either.

I’m trying to enjoy the rest of the summer, work a lot to save money for grad school, I still really miss Guatemala and traveling through Mexico, and feel overwhelmed with trying to find an apartment in Boston and get everything ready for school in the Fall. Ha. It’s getting to the end of the summer so Jon and I are just working together to try and get everything figured out. I’ll be sad at the end of the summer since my sister is also going to college (where did my baby sister go?! she’ll be a freshman) so we won’t live together anymore.

A summary: it’s a really transient time for us, I’m trying to enjoy the good things while they last, and Jon and I are working overtime to get our plans in order for the Fall. Wish us luck!
